Yard Patrol (5/14/07)

STINKY turned 26 weeks today, he was born on November, 13th, so that makes him 6 month old. He's maturing into an Aire-man, I know, trust me, I KNOOOOOOOW!

(mum: most of you know, Miss Sunshade has a thing for un-neutered males, and just over the last couple of weeks, Sunshade has been going up to Jaffa and wagging her tail (basically what she does to un-neutered males and get all flirty). Jaffa's testicles have descended, and I guess Sunshade has picked up on the testosterone smell???)

So I thought it was time for me to teach him the proper yard behaviour for a grown Airedale. Your yard is yours to guard, MY yard is yours to guard. Since this is MY yard, it's his responsibility to guard it too.

I showed STINKY:

Step 1 - you grab a ball or something in your mouth to prevent barking. Barking is a nuisance, hoomans don't like it. Since it's hard to have self-control being a terrier an all, it's easier for you if you have something in your mouth, such as a punctured soccer ball.

Step 2 - once you have located the person/animal to which you are guarding your yard against, shake your head violently (so violently that the object in your mouth bangs against your chest), with the ball in mouth. (mum: this is what Sunshade does instead of snarling or barking when she has something in her mouth. It's hilarious!)

Step 3 - prance proudly around the perimeter of your yard, with the ball in your mouth.

Step 4 - drop the object from your mouth, again, survey the perimeter of your yard. If the person/animal lingers around behind your fence line, repeat steps 1,2,3.

Easy enough??

Here's how it's done!

Sunshade,

Your ball must be suffering from SBS (Shaken Ball Syndrome). And what EXACTLY did you mean by those first 2 lines of your post? How much are you warming up to Jaffaman?

Inquiring minds want to know,
Stanley

Oh Sunshade, I hate to tell you, but I don't think Jaffa was really taking any notice of the important lesson you were trying to teach him, hehehe!

Hey Jaffa and my human girl share a birthday (though she will be 12 this year). I don't think he was paying much attention to your lesson though sunshade.

I think you might have to repeat that lesson a couple of times until it sinks in!

Good job there Sunshade.

See, I can't help but to bark when strangers come close to my space! I'll bark my head off. MaMa don't like it but hey, I've got to tell them to get off my turf right?!

you have so much self control to not bark at those people being loud. I cant believe you are protecting the yard and Stinky is just wandering around.
