Summer Tip: Ways To Keep COOOOL

Since it is the summer, it can get stinkin hot sometimes. I was thinking about this matter yesterday while I was at Buntzen Lake.

Sooo...

I experienced a few different techniques of COOLING without really having to "work".

I say without having to "work" because swimming is obviously the easiest way to get the entire body COOL,

However, I do realize not everyPUP love to exercise in water. So I tested a few ways of COOLING without having to do much work.

Technique 1 - soaking all four feet in water

Report: I did feel that COOL tinkling sensation up my legs. But it stopped just below elbow height, and the rest of my body was still very warm. This is recommended for days that are somewhat hot, but not smokin' hot, or for you to COOL your pads down.

Technique 2 -
Sit your butt (muscle or non-muscle) down in water, have the water covering your tummy

Report: This technique feels a little weird to do at first. Half way in water, but not actually in water if you know what I mean. You definitely feel the cooling effect in your tummy area, and if you have a specially muscular butt like I do, it does help relaxe the muscles a bit.

Oh, and this is also a great way to get rid of "danglers" if you know what I mean. It saves your parents from public embarrassment due to having to manually pull the dangler out of your behind.

Technique 3 -
Stretch out and be in a lying down position

Report: This one is a bit tricky due to buoyancy. It works great at COOLING the entire body, but at the same time, it is hard to keep your body under water without having to fight your own butt from floating up. So it actually takes a bit of work to be in the stretched out, lying down position and yet still be under water.

Technique 4 -
"sit" or "stand" in water deep enough to cover your entire body up to the neck but leaving the head out (for obvious reasons)

VIEW A.

VIEW B.

VIEW C.

Report: What can I say, this sure COOLS your WHOLE body alright. It is normal at first to feel a little bit of pressure around your chest area since 90% of you are under water. You should get use to the feeling fairly quickly and enjoy the "COLD TUB" feeling under the sizzling sun.

However, this seemingly perfect technique isn't without its risks.

A few precautions:

  • Make sure you are well rested before you try this technique because dosing off while in this position can have detrimental effects such as inhaling water and choking, which may result in extreme coughing, followed by throwing up of your breakfast, which leads to empty stomach, and ultimately, you end up being HUUUUUUUNGRY! (And we all know THAT is totally detrimental for anyPUP!)
  • DO NOT, and I can't stress enough, DO NOT try to sniff the dog that looks a lot like you in front of you, floating on water (like the one in front of me in this picture). That's a BAD doggie!! He makes water go up your nostrils and almost feel like it's gonna come out from your eyes. Just believe me, he makes your nose HURT and makes you sneeze and starts the chain reaction mentioned above....
  • Lastly, try not to stay in the COLD TUBBING position for too long as it does get cold and you may start to shiver, which makes it possible for you to bite your tongue while your teeth clatter, and hurting your tongue means food doesn't taste as good, and that's NOT good. It is in fact, detrimental too.

Technique 5 - keeping the head COOL (need I say more?)

Report: This is a great technique when you feel like you need to be more COOL headed, or your head needs COOLING. I tend to do this a lot, it's therapeutic.

This concludes my experiment,

Have fun COOLING and enjoy your summer everyPUP!!!!!

Oh that water looks SO GOOD. I like to get in shallow water and then lie down. It cools my belly and my jets.

I need to move to Vancouver it looks more suited to a dog than 105 heat indices!

Some good tips there Sunshade. I pawsonally like to swim around a little to keep cool.

See my legs are way to short to stay submerged but without having the waves sweep me away.

MaMa says if I have my tum tum soak in the water too long I'll get a tum tum ache. *roll eyes*

Hey Sunshade,
That is great advice
but I'm like Joe I hate the water
so for those pups who like me
hate the water or are scared of it
my advice it put the AC on and if you
don't have AC get your hooman/hoomans to get it.
But if that fails just hog the fan.

I'm afraid I might not like water....my evil mom never took me to a lake. she's too busy working. I hear the hooman pups talking about the lake they always went to last year.....How do you suppose I should get to know water?

Wow Sunshade, those are some great pics of you!! Mom tried to get me to go swimming but I refuse. Ok, I'm scared!! Maybe you can teach me a thing or two??? Actually, let me rephrase that... I refuse to even get me knees wet!! Just the paws... Any advice?

PS: We've mailed a thing or two within Vancouver and it got returned to us too!! I think Canada Post needs to smarten up! LOL. Yes, my address is the same. But I'll email to your Mom's email just in case, k? Thanks for thinking of me!!

Tobes
