We went for a walk at the University of British Columbia campus. That's where mum went to school, where I grew up chasing squirrelies.
Towards the end of our walk, I met a very pretty gurrrrrlie, she said she was a SuperDALE fan, and I said HOOOOOOOOOORAY!!!
This pretty gurrrrl's little brother, Manny is my friend on Facebook. See the note he left me couple weeks ago? He told me his sissy had seen us before!!
So today the pretty gurrrrlie stopped us to tell us she was Manny's sissy!!! Of course, STINKY had to bask in MY glory too....... (mum: Sunshade, the pretty girl asked "Is this Sunshade and JAFFA??")
After we said bye bye to the pretty gurrrrlie, mum wanted had to go mark her territory (mum: err... I needed to pee!), so she told me to go do some (dead) whale watching,
That's a lot of bone-bones to chew don't you think?
(mum: there is a real whale skeleton in the Marine Biology building!)
Instead of a white Christmas, we had a wet Christmas...
We went to UBC Campus for a walkie,
STINKY found a stickie,
I said what about ME???
I want a stickie too!!!
Yes that'll do!
Give it to me now please!
Thank you very much!
MY stickie, don't even think about it!!!
No, don't want to play with you....
OUTTA MY WAY!
Off I went!
We continued walking,
To our first destination,(mum: "hers".)
Yes, I first aire-scented, and then I checked under the garbage bin to see if there were any critters.
While I was busy being a good terrier, STINKY and D-Guy were busy being ..... not sure what,
I continued to walk towards my next destination while STINKY ran back and forth,
Sometimes he went as far as that!!! (mum: no cars allowed on that part of the campus unless it's UBC service vehicle.)
Every time STINKY went too far, mum and D-Guy would hide from him, but the hiding spots they picked were always so easy that STINKY he would find them in a flash (seriously).
(mum: I think he finds us so fast because he sees his Sunshade looking directly to her right! Maybe you should hide with us next time??)
I'll consider.
I found a rockie,
I wanted someone to pay attention to me and MY special rockie!!
D-Guy tried to get me,
I played Keep-Away,
And I won of course,
STINKY started training for his Cirque du Soleil try out,
Anyway, almost to my second destination. Guess where I was going?
Yup, to the GARBAGE!!!
This one was a hit, a squirrelie ran out and into those hedges,
Third destination...
(mum: yes, the route of our Christmas walk went from garbage bin to garbage bin to the next garbage bin... lol. She knows where each is located, and she has to check them out for any rats/mice/squirrels and even raccoons.)
Walking towards the next destination,
Here we are, and guess what I see?
Another hit!!
Then we headed to one of my favouritest spots on campus,
The ivy mountain!
It's STINKY's favouritest places too b/c he's been following me for the last 5 years,
Let the game begin!!
THROWWWWW the pine cone into the ivies!!!
This is a game me and mum invented when she was going to school here back in 2001. I was only 2 years old then. 10 years later, we still come back to the same spot to play the same game. STINKY was introduced to MY game, and after 5 years, he finally got the hang of it!
Then D-Guy wanted to go home because we had been out for 2 hours already. But I wanted to go LEFT, there were more garbage bins that way.....
I wanted to go RIGHT, more garbage bins that way.......
Stoopid D-Guy said NO!!! Humph!
When it's just me and mum, she always gives in to my pleading faces and turn a planned 1 hour walk into 3 hours, but D-Guy, he just walks off!!!!!
Hope you've all had a great Christmas with lots of garbage bins to check!!

(mum: Sunshade loves to walk on UBC campus. It all dates back to when I was going to school there, I would bring her to school with me a lot of the days. She knows to check every garbage can around the campus as rats like to hide under, and squirrels like to go inside the can. Today was no different, but it was a hedge instead.
We had walked past the hedge, and then Sunshade doubled back to it. She started running in circles around the hedge, and periodically sticking her head inside the hedge while wagging her tail. Then came the pounce, and she came out with a rat in her mouth. She sat him down gently, and just stared at him. She was expecting him to start crawling around.
So when this poor guy didn't move, Sunshade would go over, pick him up gently by grabbing his skin, and then set him down again to see if he would crawl around. I think she associated her picking it up, setting it down, to the rodent moving. When it didn't move, she just laid beside it and waited. She actually looked very sad and disappointed.
Now here comes the bad part..... I assumed the rat was dead when she brought it out, and for the longest time, I thought it was dead because it never moved. But it turned out to still be alive.... barely, but still alive. I don't think Sunshade ever meant to kill him, but the force of her pounce and catch was enough to almost kill him. When I realized he was still alive, and neither Sunshade nor Jaffa looked like they were going to end his suffering, I picked him up with a poop bag and laid him in the shade under some shrubs.
RIP rat...
Sunshade has no interest in dead animals, even one's she meant to kill (those get a shake). I thought it was weird the way she waited by him, it was almost like how she was with herbunny Georgie, andhamster Mousie. She must have known he was still alive....
The video below basically sums up what I have written above, about her trying to "wake" the rat up after she had waited. You may or may not want to watch it. I still had no idea he was alive until the very end of the video when he moved. You'll see that Sunshade also noticed he had moved and she stopping touching him and waited for him to spring back to life I guess....)
I'm so sorry Mr. Rat... I just wanted to bring you out and be friends with you....

Hi everybody, my name is Sunshade and I am a 13 year old SuperDALE. The reason I'm a SuperDALE is because I am extremely smart and am always there for my mum (ie, when she locked me and the car keys in the car, I unlocked the car door for her)!
Mum got me as her 16th B-Day present from grandpa and we've been inseparable ever since. I saw mum through high school graduation, moved from Victoria to the big city - Vancouver with mum, went to many of mum's lectures with her, and finally saw her through university graduation.
Words cannot describe the bond mum and I share. It is truly a once in a life time connection that we have with each other. Mum says I'm her "one in a million soulmate", I think so too!!!
